MYPHOTOMantai Chow is a video journalist at The New York Times, where he tells human-interest stories that blend journalistic curiosity with cinematic craft. He thinks like a reporter and works like an artist with a go-getter bent.

Before joining the Times, Mantai covered politics, human rights, and breaking news in Hong Kong and mainland China for more than a decade at Radio Television Hong Kong, the city’s public broadcaster. He later produced news documentaries for The South China Morning Post.

A graduate of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism (Class of 2016, with honors), Mantai’s storytelling has earned him multiple recognitions, including two New York Emmy nominations (2025), AAJA Journalism Excellence Award (2022).

Outside of work, Mantai is a cat lover who insists that a cup of coffee before bed helps him sleep better.
